There are three things Austin Powers’ father can’t stand in this world: running, people who are intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch. So here it is… The first annual King’s Day Trail Party is happening on Sunday, April 27th, in the Tillamook State Forest. (RSVP bottom of page)
Just for fun. We were looking at dates for a trail adventure and availability pushed us to King’s Day. And since the Dutch use it as an excuse to party in the streets, and we figured a long run in the woods was close enough.
It is not a race, no starting gun, aid stations, signs or other support you’d might expect at an official event. Unsupported, unsanctioned, and unmarshalled. It is just a run with friends, new and old. You can go as fast or slow as you want.
The King's Day Trail Party is a 13.5 mile loop with about 2600 ft of elevation. After a mellow start downhill (be careful crossing the road), the big climb of the day follows. Then a steep-ish downhill continuing into a 'rollercoaster'. Ending with a little kick to finish strong.
If you don't feel like doing the entire loop, you're more than welcome to run King's Day Trail Party Kleintje Pils. It is the top part of the loop; still 7.5 miles, still a great run.
It's April. It's the coastal range. It will be muddy.
It is all happening on Sunday April 27th. Start and finish are at the Rogers Camp Trailhead. Unofficial start is at 930AM. As it is a non-event, please bring your own snacks, hydration, fuel and post run beverages and perhaps a few extra to share with your new trail friends.
Carpool if possible. It's better for the environment and parking is limited. Speaking of parking... You will need a parking permit. You probably already have one, just make sure you bring it and display it.
Please RSVP below so we know how many folks we can expect. And so we can inform you if things change.
Oh, and if you’d like, wear something orange. Because it is King’s Day after all...
